Thanks to generosity of Mr. Dwight Bradley, Troop 219 was able to visit the Bradley Apple Orchard twice to make apple cider.
I was on the second visit. After everyone arrived at the orchard in Chugiak, Mr. Bradley took us into the orchard to collect the apple droppings. Once apples are ripe they automatically fall to the ground. He also showed us how to safely pick apples off the tree. Once we collected the apples up we took them back to the house for a good cleaning.
We cleaned the apples and inspected them before placing them into the grinder. Once in the grinder, the apples were mashed, making a small stream, flowing into the milk jugs. The apple cider tasted great, and Mr. Bradley let us fill up our jugs for free. Thanks!
Like with any fun event, the next step was cleaning up the equipment. Not fun, but it wasn't all that hard.
Best Part of the Event: Free
apple cider.
Worst Part of the Event:
Cleanup.
