Mr. Bledsoe took four scouts from Troop 219 on a field trip to the KL6M Radio Station.  After arriving, we went down to Mr. Melum's basement and listened to radio transmissions that were being bounced off the moon from Alaska to Europe. We also watched him outside when he moved his satellite dish.  Our thanks go out to Mr. Mike Melum of Anchorage for his hospitality.

This turned out to be a great way to see how an amateur radio station functions, and how we can talk to people far away using a ham radio. We were able to contact people in Italy and other parts of Europe!  Thanks again Mr. Melum.

Best Part of the Event: Contacting people in Italy!
Worst Part of the Event: It was cold outside.
Scoutmaster/Asst Scoutmaster Comments: A big thanks to Mr. Bledsoe for his participation in the ham radio BSA 48th "Jamboree on the Air" (JOTA). Read about JOTA this month in the October Scouting Magazine.
