In Scouts we are currently working on Space Exploration, and for that, you have to have two successful rocket launches and recoveries. Mr. Duft happens to have a permit for model rocket engines, so he started this merit badge. We toke about four weeks building and painting our rockets, then on the third week of March, we went out to West Papoose Lake and fired them off. In maybe fifteen rockets fired, only one was lost! bOne was broken beyond repair and lost it's nose cone and four went into the forest at the edges of the lake, but only one of them was lost. There was also time for sledding at the monster sledding hill. On the last night, we had a challenge. There was a really big pile of wood that some of the scouts had built, and each scout got only one match. How would it get lit? Thanks to one of the scouts and some well placed tinder from the pile of wood, we had a roaring bonfire and toasty smores. Mr. Duft even took out two sticks of Roman Candles and fired the balls into the air! He has a permit for fireworks too. Thank you Mr. Duft!

Best Part of the Event: Launching rockets and sledding.
Worst Part of the Event: People's boots, socks, and gloves kept freezing overnight.
Scoutmaster/Asst Scoutmaster Comments: A big thanks to Mr. Duft for letting us come out to his cabin and fire off some rockets. Also thank you for getting the engines and rocket kits from LOC Precision.
