Event Title: Turnagain Pass Campout
Date of Event: April 5-6, 2008
Location: Turnagain Pass, Alaska
Responsible Person: Mr. Game McGimsey, ASM

Person(s) Completing Report: Grady Hopper
Person(s) posting to web: Grady Hopper

Everybody came to the church on Saturday morning, loaded the gear in the vehicles, and set off for Turnagain Pass. We all stopped at Girdwood for some snacks and refreshments, then headed southward. When we reached the parking lot, we unloaded all of the gear, snow shoed up, and started hiking up the hill. After about a half of a mile, we all stopped at the place we were going to camp at, but then decided to go up the hill a little farther. Everybody got ready to start digging once we got there, and the snow was flying for several hours. Mr. McGimsey was cutting and building; he built a very cool igloo, instead. After a long day's hard work, everybody broke out the Mountain House dehydrated food, and boiled up dinner. Most people decided to hit the hay early, while it was still light outside. The next morning, everybody got up, ate some breakfast, and started to break camp. We all headed back to the parking lot, and took off. We stopped in Girdwood again for some pizza, then left for some clean clothes and nice, long showers.

Best Part of the Event: spending most of the day and all of the night under the snow, yet still on top of six feet of it.
Worst Part of the Event: sunburn. (How, I don't know. 1. there was no sun, 2. we were under the snow. ?)
Scoutmaster/Asst Scoutmaster Comments: Thank you to Mr. McGimsey for organizing the event.

P.S.  We were clean in our outdoor manners and conservation minded.  We only dug in the top 6 feet of snow, no one got to the bottom four.    Mr. Hopper
