    Backpacking Check List (Weekend Fall Trip)

    Backpack—internal or external frame (4000-5000 cubic inches)—packed   weight not to exceed 20/25-percent of hiker’s body weight Camera (optional)
    Lightweight gloves? Sleeping Bag (Summer 25deg – Winter 0deg) 3-4lbs carry weight Compact binoculars (optional)
    Sleeping Pad? Backpack cover or large plastic bag to keep out rain Sunglasses (optional)
    Complete change of warm clothes..light weight (no cotton)…dress in layers Parachute cord (50ft)
    Pants—synthetic or light weight wool blend for colder weather Strips of duct tape wrapped around water btl or small roll of black electrical tape (optional)
    Shirt—polypro / synthetic, or light wool blend? Underwear Scout knife or leatherman
    Thermal long underwear (Polypro, thermax, or wool blend) Flashlight or headlamp (extra batteries)
    Socks—2pr (Thorlo mid weight or wool/acrylic blend) Disposable hand-warmers (optional)

    * Troop Gear/Food: Tents, backpack stoves, cook kits, cooking utensils, and food will be divided up amongst scouts evenly…save some space in your pack.  

     

    Winter Camping

    Scout Handbook in zip-lock bag or preferred mini-scout book Flashlight or preferred headlamp r Extra batteries
    Winter boots (Sorel type pack boots, bunny boots, or mukluks…-20 below or better & waterproof)  2-plastic garbage bags
    Personal first aid kit r Sleeping bag (1 winter weight or 2 summer weight bags) Wiggy sleeping bag preferred Chapstick / Carmex lip balm (SPF15+ is a must)
    Stocking cap (for night while sleeping) Sunglasses r Snacks: trail mix, power bars, jerky, hard candy
    Sleeping pads (thermarest or closed cell foam pad)…2 pads better than one for insulation Cook kit & cooking utensils (Troop)
    Four Season tent (Troop) White gas stove & fuel (Troop)
    Ground cloth / footprint for tent…vapor barrier (troop)

    1-pr ea. mid & expedition weight long underwear (wool blend, polypro, thermax) keep one set for sleeping Merit Badge books
